Thursday, 31 Jan 2019 Chinese New Year

This year, the Chinese New Year will take place on the 5th of February, the opportunity to discover all the traditions of this significant festivity.

Originally, the Chinese New Year, also called Spring feast or fête du Têt in Vietnam, is the main celebration for the Chinese communities around the world and lasts nearly 3 weeks. This lunar New Year is celebrated each year according the lunar calendar which means the first day of new moon: this helps to chase away bad influences and wish a blessed New Year.

Thus, the Parisian districts will host markets, concerts and shows around this culture during February.

For example, you will discover the New Year Chinese parade in the 13th district (which is Paris’ Chinese neighborhood) on Sunday, February 17.

The museums will show this wonderful culture as the Guimet museum (Asian Art Museum) for example, which will held dedicated workshops and visits (tactile, descriptive and audio visits about rituals and legends for the celebration).

The discovery will go on with Chinese gastronomy, especially on the Food Market on the 7th of February at 11 Boulevard de Belleville from 6pm to 10:30pm. This market will be in collaboration with La Taverne de Zhao (typical Chinese restaurant located in the 10th district): you will discover all the specialities cooked by 25 restaurants in a typical atmosphere.
